Assessment Overview
Assessor
Assessors are registered by NZITO to assess a trainee or apprentice's evidence of competency once it has been collected and verified. They make sure the evidence demonstrates the candidates competence and, if they are not satisfied with its validity and sufficiency, may ask for further evidence.
Assessors may be:
- workplace assessors - attached to a specific workplace
- NZITO independent asessors - selected by NZITO to help achieve business needs
- authorised NZITO staff members
Their role is to:
- judge the evidence gathered for assessment
- provide feedback to the candidate on their performance
- record and register their assessment decisions
- participate in annual moderation
Help with Planning, Training and Assessment
At the start of any training the NZITO Advisor and the employer develop a training plan for the candidates work place. This helps to ensure the candidate completes their qualification in the right order and within the agreed timeframe.
Involving assessors in developing the training plan can be useful, as they can:
- help to identify any potential training gaps for the candidate, and how to address them
- help the candidate to make appropriate choices for elective unit standards
