- AMAP
- Assessment and Moderation Action Plan
These documents list the requirements of the standard setting body for moderation and accreditation
- CATS
- Common Assessment Tasks
Developed by the standard setting body (SSB) for assessment against a unit standard
- ITO
- Industry Training Organisation
ITO's setup within industry sectors to manage industry training.
- ITR
- Industry Training Register
A national database that logs all trainee details across all providers, ITO's and tertiary institutions (to be introduced 1 March 2011)
- NZITO
- New Zealand Industry Training Organisation
The ITO for Meat Processing, Dairy Manufacturing and Leather Manufacturing industries.
- RCC
- Recognition of Current Competency
This is where a candidates existing skills and knowledge are assessed against nationally recognised standards
- NZQA
- New Zealand Qualifications Authority
Responsible for assuring the quality of New Zealand education
- RPL
- Recognition of Prior Learning
This is where a person's prior learning is acknowledged as evidence towards nationally recognised standards and/or qualifications.
- ROA
- Record of Achievement
An Individuals record of learning held at NZQA for all passed unit standards and qualifications
- SOP
- Standard Operating Procedure
The definition of a particular task a worker is required to perform.
- SSB
- Standards Setting Body
The organization responsible for developing and registering qualifications and unit standards with NZQA. NZITO is the SSB for Dairy, Meat, Leather and Occupational Health and Safety
- TEC
- Tertiary Education Commission
The funding body for all post compulsory education and training offered by universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, Wananga, private training establishments, foundation education agencies, industry training organizations, and adult & community education providers.

- Qualification

A Qualification is gained through achieving a standard set of educational tasks. Qualifications cover a wide range of educational levels. New Zealand qualifications include NCEA (National Certificate of Achievement), National Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees. Each level of qualification will be comprised a number of credits.
- Credits

Credits count towards completion of a qualification. The higher the level of qualification, the more credits are required
- Unit standards

Unit standards are the specific tasks that need to be achieved to complete a qualification. Each unit standard will have a specific focus and will be worth a particular number of credits. Unit standards are set at different levels.
